Protection and Security through Fingerprint Analysis
Fingerprint analysis has an important role in criminal investigations by helping law enforcement agencies identify a suspect, place a suspect at the scene of a crime or prevent a foreign criminal or terrorist from entering the United States.
Since September 11, 2001, United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has been improving security at all ports of entry into the United States. A new initiative involves the collection of all 10 fingerprints from international travelers attempting entry into the country.
By collecting the digital fingerprints, CBP officers can positively identify individuals and determine whether they pose a risk to the United States. The fingerprints are automatically compared to those contained in the US-VISIT’s Automated Biometric Identification System (IDENT) database.
While a computer can generally match incoming fingerprints with those stored in a database, human verification is often required. US-VISIT's Biometric Support Center (BSC) supports not only CBP, but other federal, state and local agencies with such fingerprint analysis requirements. BAE Systems provides expert fingerprint analysts who are on the job 24/7 to support our nation’s law enforcement agencies. Securing our nation’s ports of entry to protect against future criminal or terrorist attacks is one of many of our important national security missions.
Additional Identity Management capabilities:
- Fraud Detection – Provide fraud detection tools that deliver actionable intelligence, allowing customers to exploit large, complex data sets to allow investigators to discover large-scale networks of sophisticated criminal activity. These tools automatically generate prioritized networks and provide easy-to-use visualization tools for further investigation.
